I don’t feel like working these days, what should I do?

The year is almost reaching its end. Yet we are nowhere close to getting a taste of our office environment, regularly getting stuck up in jams, and shifting the pajamas paradigm to formal clothes. Yes, Work From Home (WFH) is comfortable, but with so many distractions at our home, we humans are wired to lose our concentration and take several breaks between work, study, etc. You never know when these small breaks can extend to 2-3 days, and you find yourself not willing to go back or doing anything at all. So how do we break the cycle? How do we take this laziness and procrastination out of the system?


Maintain a routine: Yes, you do want to binge on your favorite shows, sleep, and take full liberty of enjoying a vacation, but it is also essential to have discipline in life. Humans are creatures of habit. Hence it is essential to maintain routine which you can follow every day. You don’t have to stick to it religiously, but having a work schedule, waking up, and sleeping time helps eliminate inconsistency and bring some rhythm.


Start with the most challenging task the earliest: We all have had those moments when we had to study the most challenging chapter in the syllabus, prepare a sturdy presentation, or just read up on an article that we have been delaying for so long. Surprisingly, at these moments, our brain remembers the smallest tasks from 10 years ago and compels us to check that off our list. “Let’s take a bath, clean the room, and then I can get to this eventually in the end.” Sometimes all it takes is to sit down with the task at hand and complete it. It will relieve you and help you make time for activities which you like doing. 

Move around: Lying on the bed, taking a bit of rest, is alright at times. But that time limit can exceed, and you’ll often find yourself out of the zone to work anymore. Hence, it is advisable not to give your body a rest of more than 10 to 15 minutes between work.

Make space for your favorite activities: The most significant advantage we have at this point is time itself. Traveling hours to reach the office, finding the perfect pair of clothes to dress in are tedious tasks and waste important minutes of our day. Utilize your time correctly, and after a hectic day of work, always make some space to enjoy your favorite activities. This will give you immense joy and pleasure because a vacation at the end of some heavy-duty work still feels relaxing, and you would look forward to it.
